“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" (U.S. Const. amend. II.). In light of such tragic mass shootings that have occurred across the United States of America, the 2nd Amendment of the American Constitution has been called into question in attempt to establish new legislation. The United States’ weak gun control regulations are the cause of much criminal violence and should be reviewed and strengthened in order to decrease gun related violence.
The 2nd Amendment of the American Constitution has been a part of American history since 1791. It protects the people’s right to possess weapons for their own protection. Instead, what the government is currently implementing is a small step towards a safer country. Stricter background checks, raising the minimum age to purchase guns, and banning bump stocks. Many gun control advocates seem to think that banning firearms is the easiest solution. However, it’s implications could lead to stripping law abiding citizens of their rights to the 2nd Amendment and creating a bigger black market for guns.
