Gun Control: an Argument Dating Back to Before 1776 The debate of gun control dates back 100s of years,and many people want to ban guns so that no one can have them. That statement is complete ignorance to what really goes on. The debate has many different viewpoints with some being as radical as banning guns to create a false sense of Utopia. The recent rise of school shootings has set off a spark of gun control debates that make little sense.
Why take away the protection and recreational shooting practices of innocent citizens because others are irresponsible? Gun control laws are a major issue being discussed in the U.S. right now. Some believe that by condemning the availability of firearms to all, criminals and people with mental illnesses will be less likely to attain firearms. However they are then violating the people’s second amendment right, which give them the right to bear arms. According to the article on “Gun Control Laws” from the Issues and Controversies database, It all started on “June 12, 2016, when a gunman killed 49 at a gay nightclub in Orlando Florida.”
Moms Demand Action is an organization created in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting back in 2012, this organization urges people and businesses to take “a common-sense approach to protecting our children and families from the growing epidemic of gun violence in America” (“Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America”). In their photo series, Moms Demand Action tries to provoke readers into thinking about why the government bans items like books and chocolate eggs with toys inside of them, but not guns. The mothers argue that the government is not doing all that they should or could be doing in order to protect United States citizens, especially the children. However, protection does not always fall into the government’s hands, parents should always be teaching their children the importance of practicing good gun safety everywhere they go. If the United States collectively created stricter laws against who is able to have guns and families practice good gun safety the threat of gun violence would dissipate.
Moms Demand Action is known all over America, with chapters in all 50 states. Partnered with the group called Mayors Against Illegal Guns, they were able to unite millions of Americans to come together and make a difference at the local, state, and national levels. The audience can conclude that through this powerful image, Mom’s Demand Action is a group that is eager for change. People that believe gun control is not needed will not agree with this image. They may argue that education about gun safety is needed rather than rules that limit gun ownership.
Gun control has been a big factor in today’s society, now days it is often to see people getting their lives taken from them due to guns. Having researched one side of the issue, that gun violence had increased over the last year. Having researched the other side of the issue, more gun owners are feeling their rights are being taken little by little. There is no question this is a complicated issue that will require a complicated answer.
Gun control is a major problem/controversy in America right now. People are getting killed and the way they are getting killed is by gun. On the issue of gun control, I had always thought along the lines of opposing or supporting the issue but had never thought that there could be another argument different from these two main ones that could be discussed. It was therefore quite refreshing to look at the issue from Novak’s point of view. The government has many responsibilities to keep and protect the basic rights of its citizens as well as to make new laws to ensure their safety or well-being. The government is expected to keep everybody safe especially in the area of gun control. The government as well as the people of the United States always debate over the second amendment. Everybody tries to figure out if it grants freedom of gun ownership to every common citizen of the United States. The stand on the issue for the past 70 years about the second amendment granted all of the rights only to militia was recently challenged by Attorney General John Ashcroft.

America is truly split between those who advocate for gun control and those who are opposed.
Gun control is a topic that has been debated over the last few years. It is a subject that many people stand for and against the change in policy. Basically gun control would change the way firearms are regulated, by changing laws or polices that control how they are made, sold, owned, and used by civilians. However by trying to take away firearms from civilians would be infringing upon their rights as United States citizens. There are many ethical reasons why gun control should not be implemented towards law-abiding citizens such as it is hypocritical, neglects the reality of control, and is discriminating against gun owners.
While those in favor of gun control work hard to push their agenda, it is clear that America has far more citizens who favor gun rights over gun control. In order to get what they want, control supporters are going to need to get a big jump on gun supporters for house seats. Some of the control supporters have even begun to turn their head and give up on their arguments. The ones who were once completely against guns, have now begun to say that “there is a time and place for everything” (Elliot and Frizell, The New Politics of Gun Control). The motto in New Hampshire is “Live Free or Die”.
