As a concerned citizen and college student, I recommend several policies to create a safer environment at school campuses. As there has been an increase in school shootings within the last ten years, the safety of students on campus has become a major concern. The problem of the increase in the number of school shootings has resulted in an unsafe environment for students affecting overall development. I am writing to seek your assistance on the issue of schools not having proper safety measures to prevent and respond to mass shootings, this issue must come to an end by finding an appropriate resolution.

Such as counselors, therapist, and training for teachers to identify psychological problems in the classroom. The ability for students to utilize these services is a crucial element to respond to a school shooting emergency and prevention.
• Provide funding for advanced security technology such as metal detectors at all entrances of school, security cameras placed inside and outside of school grounds. Also, requires a school resource officer on all campuses.
• Congress and school officials should work together, creating policies requiring individual school and building safety plans, as well as district-wide safety plans that will serve as a guide to address the various safety needs in the school. Students school environment should be overall safe and supportive. When a parent sends their child to school for eight hours they should feel confident that their child will return safely, and students should feel comfortable to learn and grow. No parent wants a broken heart from a phone call saying their child has been shot. I recommend that enhancing the existing federal policy that gives local school districts the flexibility to use resources to fund student services personnel (including counselors, psychologists, and therapists) as well as appropriate training for teachers to identify mental health problems. In the Parkland, Florida school shooting, the gunman was a student, who had demonstrated serious mental illness and that he had planned out the school shooting as he posted on his YouTube channel. This could have possibly been prevented if teachers were aware of the warning signs of mental instability. If schools had the proper resources for their students, this may lessen the number of school shootings as they can give help to those in
