Gun Control is one of the most greatest, ugliest, and most controversial debate topic throughout 1960s to now. The two most common sides are the ones for banning and restricting guns completely from citizen ownership or against gun control all together and saying how it is infringing on the second amendment.
The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution reads, "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." No matter where you go there is always gonna be people trying to explain what the 2nd amendment exactly means. Some people make it sound like every single person who owns any type of gun is going to commit a crime or murder, which is absolutely not the case. A majority of gun owners in the United States are reasonable and educated people. Another fact that should be talked about more is that most crimes are caused by people that have already committed a crime in the past. The US Court system has been too lenient with criminals. Has anyone noticed this? Someone’s first offense often get off with minimal sentences or them choosing probation instead of imprisonment. Giving them a second chance is putting all of us in danger. The FBI reports that the murder rate in philadelphia stood at 5.4 people per 100,000 population in 1964, the year literally before their city’s gun laws went into effect. By 1973, the murder rate went from 5.4 to 11.5. The robbery rate in 1968 was 75.2 per 100,000 population. Then it went up from there to 232.6 by 1973. The 20,000 current existing gun controls laws have failed miserably to curb crime in general. People continue to blame guns instead of the humans who was in possession of them, for gun-related deaths. People might say “well Western Europe has strict gun laws and it has less violence than the United states” as true that is, it also has less violence of all kinds. It’s cultural difference not legal difference. Gun control laws will not prevent criminals from obtaining guns or breaking laws in the United States. Having gun controlment laws will just decrease the amount of people that can protect themselves and could get injured or even worse,
