How does gun safety affect children under 10? The Eddie Eagle program is a gun safety program from kindergarten to 4th grade and teaches children what to do if they ever encounter a firearm of some sort. Fatality rates in the United States have declined 65% after the Eddie Eagle Program.

The impact when a child sees gun or firearm being shot near a close proximity of him or her can be devastating or in some cases scar them for life. Kids who have either been shot or seen a loved one or anyone shot in front of them can be very catastrophic and bad. “Among children of the Eddie Eagle program’s targeted age group have declined approximately 65 percent in the last 20 years” (Deets 2). The kids who get shot or see someone they love or basically anyone else being shot can be very hard on them and they can be scarred for life. Children can also have a very big impact mentally. “I think it is a very important thing to understand that when your friends are wounded or dead, it's a real loss.” (Dooley). Kids suffer through Psychological Trauma if or when they are severely hurt mentally or even physically. One of the major cons is that most if not all kids under 10 think real guns are toys just like the guns you would get a Toys R’ Us. “Too often children see guns in popular culture treated as if they were toys without any serious consequences.” Most of the time, people grow up playing with toys like nerf guns as they were children. This makes their mind think that guns are a good thing to have around and play with. Another con is that criminals don't register guns. “Canada just abolished its billion dollar gun-registration program because it never solved a single crime.” (Halbrook 1).
