Guy Consolmagno was born on September 19th, 1952, in Detroit, Michigan. Not much is known about his early childhood, however he attended the University of Detroit Jesuit High School. Once he graduated, he received college degrees from MIT. He then pursued his PHD at the University of Arizona, and received his doctorate in 1978. He was a postdoc and taught at Harvard’s Observatory and MIT. Once he tied up all the loose ends at his alma maters he signed up for the peace corps, and was deployed to Kenya to teach astronomy and physics for two years. After Kenya, he became an Assistant Professor at Lafayette. He started to become a Jesuit in 1989 and took vows to become a brother in 1991. He has studied connections between meteorites and asteroids, written books & scientific papers, however, one of his most important projects was when he was involved in ANSMET. ANSMET is project that stands for Antarctic Search for Meteorites, where the scientists involved trek the Antarctic in search for fallen meteorites and other extraterrestrial forms that have fallen from the sky. He had participated in the discovery of many meteorites, and even had an asteroid named “Little Guy” after him. Just like Einstein, Guy also had a very strong opinion on the combination of religion and science. He believe that religion and science needed to work together, and only as a team, religion would
