Gym Decorum Analysis

Danielle Douglas hits the nail on the head in his blog In the gym, exersice decorum. Throughout the post, Danielle mentions certain universally shared pet peeves of people who frequent the gym. For example, people who sweat profusely and refuse to clean up the sweat after finishing with the machine or people who hog multiple machines at one time are breaking decorum of the gym. Also, people will attempt to correct your workout form. Danielle also goes into detail about why these hidden rules are important and should be followed that is if you wish to avoid the side eye.Over the years I have noticed the hidden rules ,or as Jay Heinrichs would call it in his book Thank You For Arguing, decorum. The worst rule of gym decorum to break in my opinion is keeping to yourself. This is probably one of the most awkward things to witness. For example, a guy walks up to a girl preforming a workout and he will physically put his hands on her in an attempt to "correct her form". To most people this is a big NO-NO. Your focus when in the gym should be your own workout, not someone else's workout. Also, it is almost never okay to touch a stranger, unless of course, they were in immediate danger of harming themselves. I take serious issue with people who feel that they are more advanced or in the right that they can walk up to an individual and correct the form, posture, or method that someone else does in their workout. Not only is it rude and takes people off guard, but it is an etiquette that the article says should not be broken unless the person is in grave danger due to that particular workout. Essentially, people want to go to the gym to have an hour or more of their own personal time to do what they feel they need to work on. When a person comes up to them and breaks the flow of their workout, it can lower the confidence and peace of the person and their
