The importance of the Human Resources Sergeant in the Army White Paper, The Profession of Arms, is virtually everywhere. I will in the following essay describe instances where you can pull out how important HR Sergeant’s role is on a day to day basis. Whether it be the additional duties we perform to assist our Commander’s in their interest Programs, or our daily operations. HR Sergeants have to be constant professionals and enhance the Professional Culture in the military. Our job is to ensure that all Soldiers records get updated timely matter. To be a Profession, simply put, to be an expert through experience at one’s career field. We have the greatest HR position in the world, we get to serve the one percent that raise their right hand, and say, I will. HR Sergeants in all components of the Army have an expectation to be an expert at all things admin. For me, when I became Active Guard Reserve and transitioned from Military Police to HR, I was instantly looked at as a subject matter expert at all things admin. Soldiers rely on us, to not only make sure their records are up to date, but to educate them on the proper procedures to update those records. My supervisor has constantly told me, we have three responsibilities; timeliness, accuracy, and Soldier’s records. If we cannot submit documents in a timely matter, we have failed. If we are not accurate in everything we do, we have failed. If we do not keep Soldier’s records up to date, we have failed. So what is the Importance of HR Sergeants in the Profession of Arms? We are one of, if not the most relied on Profession in all of the Army. We are one of the few Professions that our client is the Soldiers themselves. We provide a service of cultural adaptability, meaning, if there is a new training that deals with personal relationships, we will get that training, and become trainers. We have to take pride in the fact we’re the Profession Soldiers can count on, versus become upset that they need us. We are professionals in one of the greatest Professions there
