Did you know that there are 12 olympians total in greek mythology and greek religion? Well, Hades is one of them. Hades is the god of the underworld where in greek mythology, souls go after death. Also,the center of greek mythology is the pantheon of deities or gods and goddesses who were said to live on Mount olympus, the highest mountain in greece. In addition, there is no single original text like the Bible introducing all of the myths, stories and characters but instead the earliest greek myths were part of a spoken tradition. Hades was the oldest out of the three and was the god of the underworld. Hades’ two brothers are Zeus and Poseidon. Zeus, the youngest of the three, is the leader of the Olympians.Poseidon, the second oldest, is the god of sea. Hades mom is Rhea and is married to Cronus, his father. Cronus devoured all of the children as soon as they were born to prevent the prophecy that they would overthrow him. After they were spit out, they killed their father because he imprisoned them inside his stomach for their childhood. Additionally, Hades’ sister, Hera,goddess of marriage and family, is married to her brother Zeus! Also, he has a sister named Demeter, goddess of agriculture. Finally, his other sister is Hestia, the goddess of home and family. Hades, the feared god of the underworld, abducted Persephone from his sister Demeter, who was Demeter’ daughter. Then, Hades married Persephone and set her free from the underworld on one condition--staying in the underworld for six months every year without leaving and has to use the name ”Queen of the Underworld” while she is there.
