For instance, in Haitian culture, one of the customary practices is to serve “ Joumou Soup” every New Year’s Day to celebrate Independence Day, and this has been a tradition since January 1804. “Joumou soup is a traditional Haitian pumpkin soup made with vegetables, plantains, meat, pasta, and spices” (UNESCO, 2021, para. 1). Therefore, this dish has remained a ritual in every Haitian home to prepare “Joumou Soup” in their homes for generations. It would be a shame if a household did not prepare this meal on New Year’s Day on purpose, that is why, sharing a meal is a huge custom during this day where people also take the opportunity to reconcile. It is not solely the meal that has been considered an oral tradition for several generations, but understanding the heritability of being a proud and independent nation that influences how people act, think, and develop their personalities.
