The Reconstruction era happened after the civil war which gave opportunity to obstreperous southern states to enter the Union. Harrison County, Texas slavery produced a lot of the wealth in Texas. They also suffered the most during this era and the Civil War. This journal discusses how 60 percent of white households owned slaves (Hamilton, 1999).
