“Three. Two. One. Action!” As the scene starts to take off, we take a moment and think about what we would do to stage the scene. What kind of lighting, set decorations, different camera angles, and music we’d use to display what’s happening. In Act V, scene I in Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the scene takes place in a graveyard with two gravediggers talking about Ophelia’s death, and what type of burial she’d be having. Along with the gravediggers, Hamlet and Horatio are also in the graveyard watching the diggers from afar. At the end of the scene, Ophelia’s burial takes place, and Hamlet just finds out about her death. There’s also a lot of death talked about in this scene: “Is she to be buried in Christian burial that wil- / fully seeks her own salvation?” (V.i.109). One of the gravediggers says this quote when discussing Ophelia’s death and way they should dig her grave. Since they’re talking about death in this scene, I believe a darker lighting in this scene would create a better picture for viewers and bring a sense of seriousness. Talking about death and taking place in a graveyard, doesn’t necessarily say bright sunny day. Therefore, darker lighting in this scene would create a better understanding of the scene to
