Even though they had the same goal the people who helped them, the children they wanted to see, and the challenges they faced once they got there were really different. Both Odysseus and Everett attempted to get back home to their wife with crews that were very unlike,but had some similarities to each other. Odysseus had many men 600 to be exact and they knew to an extent what they were getting into. Each one of Odysseus’s men in The Odyssey choose to go or were forced to go to the Trojan War, but they knew the end goal of beating the Trojans.
There are more differences than similarities between Odysseus and John F. Kennedy, according to their hero's journeys. My hero John F. Kennedy unlike Odysseus chose to pick his call. Odysseus got told that he was going to go to war for the Greeks and my hero chose to run for the President of the United States. JFK had many of his siblings die and that made it a challenge for him to get through life. Odysseus was forced to go to war and leave his wife and his newborn son in Ithaca.
The book “The Odyssey” and the movie “O Brother Where Art Thou” are very similar in their plots. The character Odysseus from “The Odyssey” is comparable to the character Ulysses Everett from “O brother Where Art Thou” because they both overcome many obstacles along their journey and are put into similar situations. As you read these two stories, it is very easy to see the comparisons, and understand them fully. The character Odysseus from The Odyssey is comparable to the character Everett from the movie “O Brother Where Art Thou” because of the relation between both story lines. The summary of these two stories are easily connected through many things throughout the plot.
In both stories, The Odyssey and The Searcher, the two main characters are war heroes. Odysseus and Ethan both contributed in war and returned home far later than expected. In addition, both stories are about quest to find someone. There are many similarities between the stories, but none greater that the two main characters. Both Ethan and Odysseus are arrogant and think very highly of themselves and will use inferior, naive people for their benefit.
An obsession is essential for the development of a character, however, one must keep in mind the consequences that a character may face to achieve their obsession. Characters often overlook the obstacles that one might come across for the sake of their obsession. As a result, one may ruin their relationship with others and attain a state of unhappiness. Although one might argue that a character’s obsession may lead to happiness, an analysis of Prince Hamlet in William Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and Guy Montag in Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, depicts the theme of uncertainty when a character leads to downfall due to their obsessions. In the novel Fahrenheit 451, the protagonist, Guy Montag, develops an obsession with books.
In Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe, and Oedipus Rex by Sophocles, both protagonists possess tragic flaws which lead to their demise. Distanced by years in literature, Okonkwo and Oedipus are remarkably similar, however display aspects of their personalities that make their epic journeys of fate quite different. Both characters are arrogant and refuse to be told they are incorrect about anything. They are considered admirable at first, especially in the eyes of the other characters, however by the end of both stories, they are considered outcasts. Both men possess an egotistic attitude and have an overwhelming sense of pride in their achievements.
First, Odysseus and Everett share an abundance of epic hero qualities. Everett shows his courage when he disguised as KKK to free Tommy. This parallels to when Odysseys and his crew hide under the sheep and defeats the mighty Polyphemus. Everett is a cunning, quick-tongued, sharp leader, which is the same as Odysseus. Also, Pete and Delmar appear to be as dumb as the crew written in the Odyssey.
The story of Hamlet by William Shakespeare is a story of betrayal, revenge, and intrigue. Hamlet, the title character discovers that his uncle killed his father and married his mother effectively stealing the throne. Hamlet decides he must kill his uncle Claudius as revenge for what he had done. However, as the new king, Hamlet isn't sure how to get to him, so he decides to fake madness, but his plan backfires as Claudius doesn't trust him and makes sure he is always watched. In his fumbled plan for revenge, Hamlet accidentally kills Polonius, forces Polonius's son Laertes to seek revenge against him, and drives Ophelia crazy causing her to kill herself.
Although Homer and Shakespeare lived centuries apart, they both managed to write their own masterpieces that were well ahead of their time. Homer, an ancient Greek writer creates a very intelligent character, Odysseus, who experiences the highs and lows of life and identity formation. Similar to Homer, Early seventeenth-century English playwright, Shakespeare, tailors his main character to have similar attributes to that of Odysseus. Both characters are intelligent, quick witted and natural born leaders, and their creators both focused heavily on their wits and their moral didacticism, which is portrayed throughout both the Odyssey and Hamlet. When creating Odysseus, Homer didn’t leave him without any admirable traits.
The character foil between Hamlet and Ophelia is mainly based on the death of their father and grief. Ophelia and Hamlet are difference in the way that they grieved for their father’s deaths. When Hamlets Father dies Hamlet is full of grief which turns into anger towards Claudius and Gertrude this is shown when Hamlet
One big difference is the son does not die in Lion King. Hamlet and the Lion King are great tragedies that forever will be known. The first similarity in Lion King and Hamlet is in Lion King, the king, Mufasa, is betrayed and killed by his brother, Scar. This is very similar to Hamlet because the king, Old Hamlet, is also betrayed and murdered by his brother,Claudius, in a wicked way.
The differences and similarities between Hamlet and Laertes are pronounced, and they merit rigorous scrutiny. There are similarities and differences between Laertes and Hamlet. Hamlet is good in many ways, but he also has many flaws. Hamlet is a very loyal individual.
In both stories, the main character is faced with several difficulties to attempt to solve their problems. Mills is faced with his critical mother when attempting to marry, while Oedipus deals with Laius and the Sphinx on his way to Thebes. They each have help from an ally, for Mills has his therapist, and Oedipus has his adoptive parents who raise him in place of his actual parents. Mills and Oedipus both go to an oracle, or a psychic, for advice, both who seem to do nothing for the pair. The psychic, Treva, of Mills tries to help him for weeks, but to no avail, admitting that she does not really know what she is doing.
Many compare the mere Disney movie The Lion King with the great shakespearean work Hamlet. It is commonly believed that The Lion King portrays itself as a remake of Hamlet. From an quick overlook of the two works, I cannot help but agree that they do in fact hold similarities. The common misconception that The Lion King was a remake of Hamlet typically derives from the identical plot found between both works.
