In both Japan and India, machinery was used to increase the production of cotton and cloth. As time progressed, the pounds of machine-made cotton increased, while the amount of hand-spun yarn decreased. Machinery in India and Japan led to major advancements and an increase in the amount of textiles produced. The charts show that machines were increasingly effective in the production of textiles during this time period. Hand-woven textiles and goods had begun to decline due to the increase of product manufacturing by machines. These documents show that from 1884-1914, there was over a 400% increase in the production of cotton in India. The data from document one, may have been gathered by British colonial authorities because they were able to adopt European advancements.
