One of the main themes in Brave New word is happiness vs. truth, the government is in control, the citizens have lost their freedom, but have been given pleasure by the drug Soma to fake happiness. Are the people of this population actually happy, is everybody living truth, or is everybody living a lie with fake happiness. In this book the government is in control of almost everything. This meaning that they can make new people do what the others wouldn't do and couldn't do. Being that the government and the DHS can make sure all of the new people they create can fit their strict standards, of being able to do multiple jobs “Chemical workers were being trained in the toleration of lead, caustic soda, chlorine” (Page 12). Showing that the government trains these people to be tolerant to these hazardous materials so they can do things that a regular person wouldn’t and couldn’t do.
