“The story about the break-up, it’s true, but it’s not the main bit. The main bit was the affection,” says McCartney as he goes over the relief he felt, to know that the friendship between him and John Lennon had been saved before his death. Harley Like a Person, a book written by Cat Baur, is a coming of age story about a girl named Harley and the challenges she faces as she learns more about herself as a person and as a daughter. Throughout the book she finds answers to questions that she wanted to know about her past but, did she need them? In continuation, Harley’s answers affect her relationships with people most notably her friendship with Carla by ending it. Another reason Harley would be compelled by their story is how as they grew into maturity, they had to face answers that were once wanted, but now unsure. Throughout the story, Harley is faced with changes that impact the way that she perceives the world and her emotions (Baur). At a point in the story, she finds herself with no emotions because of how she lost everything that was once important her life. Friends, family trust, and even lost inspiration and imagination for art. With this, Harley is lost in a world with no imagination and is just going through the day as an empty shell. In the same way, The Beatles had once hit a point where they were separated from each other and this led to problems with others and themselves (Gilmore). This era for The Beatles was deemed after the release of their album, The White Album (“Beatles”). During this album, the band members were disjointed from each other and the causes were obvious. The main cause was the growing rift, between Lennon and McCartney and it was the main cause because they had been through so much together and were the ones who started the band.
