Araminta ross, also know as Harriet Tubman, was born into slavery in 1820. She was a slave for 29 years until 1849 when she escaped to Philadelphia with two of her brothers. She went back to Maryland a bunch of different times and had saved most of her family, plus some other slaves, within eight years of leaving. By the late 1850s she had moved out to a farm house in Auburn that she bought for her parents. Before the civil war began she helped with the Underground Railroad leading slaves to freedom in the north. It was very dangerous to be a runaway slaves.
