Abolition is the movement to end slavery and it began in the late 1700’s. The north states outlawed slavery, but the south kept it. The abolition to send slavery is important because slavery should not exist. It is horrible, and no black person should have to go through that. Because of that Abolitionists then began to demand a law ending slavery in the south.
Fredrick Douglas was a moving abolitionist speaker. He spoke about his own slave experiences. Because of his courage and talent at public speaking he won himself a career as a lecturer for the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society. The runaway slaves traveled on foot or took wagons, boats, and trains to get to the North. This is important because the slaves who were running away needed to run away safely. If they got caught running away they would be punished severely. Sometimes even death. So with the railroad people could safely escape to freedom and they wouldn’t have to be slaves anymore.
Harriet Tubman was the most famous and most successful conductor in the underground railroad. She was born into slavery. She once tried to save a salve from being punished but her power fractured her skull with a two pound weight. From then on she suffered from fainting disorders. She didn’t let that stop her because she later escaped into freedom. Then went back about 19 more times to free more slaves. One of the slaves were her parents. a- Freedom of speech was very important to the abolitionist movement. If they didn’t have freedom of speech they wouldn’t be able to say things about slavery publicly. The whole point of the abolitionist movement was to publicly speech about anti-slavery and to get everyone in the north against slavery. If they didn’t have the freedom of speech they would never be able to get any of their ideas or thought out to the public which would lead to never ending slavery. Freedom of the press was also very important. If the press never published what their ideas and thoughts were then no one would hear about it. People could read the newspaper and read all about the abolitionist
