In the book, Harry Potter: A Sorcerer’s Stone, by J.K. Rowling, Harry’s character

changes drastically in only a year at Hogwarts. When Harry was a baby, his parents were

killed by the powerful dark wizard, Lord Voldemort. Throughout the years Harry lived at

his dreadful aunt and uncle’s house, they both kept his wizarding lifestyle a secret. On

the day of his eleventh birthday Harry’s life was changed forever. Since Harry has been

at Hogwarts he has grown to stand up for himself.

When Harry was living with the Dursley’s, he was mistreated all of his youth and

shadowed by his cousin Dudley. Dudley always got the best things, for his birthday he

Not only had Harry made

many friends, but he was also chosen to be the seeker for the Gryfindoor quidich team.

Harry was chosen to be a part of the team after he flew through the air to catch a ball that

was stolen by Malfoy.

Throughout the year, Harry only had trouble with one other student, Draco

Malfoy. From the first time Harry met Malfoy, he knew that he would bring trouble.

Malfoy is the first person Harry actually stands up to; Malfoy told Harry to meet him at

midnight for a duel, and Harry never backed down, “I’ll meet you there”, said Harry.

What Harry didn’t know was, Malfoy had set Harry up to get caught out of his house by

Filch, the caretaker. Throughout the whole book, Harry and Malfoy go back and forth

with each other, but Malfoy was the first person to teach Harry to stand up for himself.

Throughout the year, Harry also noticed a strange feeling that something wasn’t

going right around the school. Once Harry spoke to Hagrid about the stone, Harry began

to dig deep into finding out all he could about it. Hagrid told Harry, “It would be best if

you don’t keep searching about this stone”. Harry kept searching and sneaking around
