According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in 1998 there were over 7,755 hate crime incidents reported in America, which stemmed from people’s biased views towards people of different races (46.9%), sexual orientations (20.8%), religions (19.8%), ethnicity and (11.6%), and people with disabilities (0.9%). All 7,755 of the crimes were more than just violence; they were violence driven by hatred. They were hate crimes. Introduction Looking at the nightly news, many would believe violent crimes are at an all-time high. There are not just one on one violent crimes or gang violent crimes. There is court shootings, school shootings, church shootings, theater shootings, mall shootings, workplace shootings, and others. Where most one on one crime is committed with illegal guns, mass shootings are done with handguns purchased legally.
The consequences faced by black people due to racism are racial hate crime and racial based crimes. Kahl (2013, September 1) writes that we used a racial hate crime in light of the fact that higher quantities of contemptuous unlawful acts target African Americans: In 2009, 48.5% of the reported single-bias hate criminal acts were racially based and 71.4% of those law infringements were represented as being against black (U.S. Department of Justice, 2009). The percentage of hate crimes are higher against African Americans. The hate criminal acts were racially based and were mostly against black. For example, departments of public safety on college campuses also play a role in creating awareness, given that in 2009, 11.4% of reported hate crimes occurred at schools or colleges (U.S. Department of Justice, 2009) and both victims and perpetrators are often young adults (Craig & Waldo, 1996; Downey & Stage, 1999).Other consequence faced by blacks is racial based crimes.

Ethnocentrism and its prevalence in U.S culture Ethnocentrism is judging another culture solely by the values and standards of one’s own culture. Individuals who are ethnocentric judge other groups in relation to their own ethnic group or culture. I think The United States likes to refer to themselves as the “big mixing pot” of cultures. I would agree, we do have a wide range of different cultures, but that does not mean that we do not “evaluate and judge other cultures based on how they compare to our own cultural norms.” I think us as Americans feel this way, because we are too scared to change what we have learned and known since birth.
