Media anti-crime efforts are those programs that target a wide audience in an effort to deter offenders. By the same token, anti-crime efforts target citizens and witnesses to reduce victimization and to assist law enforcement in solving crimes (Surette, 2015). The use of media to thwart criminals and assist the public from becoming victims of crime has been in use for hundreds of years. From the public executions of Medieval Europe to the “Wanted” posters in the 1800’s American West, anti-crime efforts have continued.
