According to the 2013 Academic Ranking of World Universities, the University of Hawaii at Manoa is ranked among the top 150 world universities. Besides, it is in top 67 United States institutions. The Department of Athletics is highly important niche of university life at Manoa. Participation at University of Hawaii’s athletic programs in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Football, offers opportunities to compete in about 20 intercollegiate sports. About four-hundred and fifty students are involved in UH Manoa athletic programs. That is, athletic program in UH Manoa plays significant role both, for students and university’s image.

All these aspects being coupled together allow students to develop their capabilities upmost. It should be mentioned that the University of Hawaii at Manoa is actively engaged in the development of Athletics. That is, in 2009, a comprehensive strategic plan “A 21st Century Strategy for Enhancing Our Winning Tradition, 2009-2014” was developed by the University of Hawaii’s Department of Athletics. Recently, this plan was updated in order to address new challenges. The vision of Hawaii Athletics is to “Bring pride to Hawaii and our University by becoming a consensus national Top-50 athletics program as measured by the National Association of Collegiate Director of Athletics” (“A Plan for Hawaii Athletics”).
