NIGHTMARE

He should have woken her up the moment he sensed something was wrong.

Hawke was usually a quiet sleeper. The moment she curled up in his arms and closed her eyes, she was gone. Her soft breaths were what lulled Fenris into a light sleep that could be disturbed if Hawke so much as twitched in her sleep.

He was immediately alert when he felt Hawke tense, a small whimper escaping her. The hand on her back began drawing light patterns against her skin, the other moving up to brush through her hair, trying to calm her. Hawke had tried many times to get Fenris to explain just how much the markings bothered him, and tonight was the first time he was opening up completely. His hand found her bare hip and drew lazy circles against it and Hawke took the opportunity to rake her gaze across his body, studying the marks closer and occasionally tracing them with a soft touch.

"If you control it, it doesn't bother me," he
