They don’t explain much about this place but what I’ve read is that one of the major characters, Hazel Grace, only goes to the church, the hospital and stays at her house or visits one of the other major characters, Augustus Waters. Hazel Grace spends most of her time in her house reading. When she’s not reading at home she’s usually at the support group in the church.
• Amsterdam- In Amsterdam Hazel and Augustus enjoyed their time and don’t have to worry so much about their medical problems. They focus more on their relationship and even take their relationship to the next step. The goal in Amsterdam was to visit one of Hazel Grace’s favorite author’s but he acted incredibly rude and made her cry when they left.

Hazel Grace’s family is willing to do anything for her and cherish all the time they can with her. They even save up to take to take Hazel to Amsterdam. In the short time that Hazel and Augustus spend together, they still act like they’ve known each other for years, the act like family. The novel doesn’t mention Augustus’s family a lot but the argument that him and his mother had right before he left to Amsterdam showed she cared and that she just wanted him to get better.
8. Symbols:
Water: This is a symbol because it’s hard to notice but water signifies a lot in this novel. Hazel has always had trouble with her lungs because she’s always drowning in them when they fill up with water. Augustus’s last name is Waters which has something to do with Hazel. The author was smart when putting these two together, probably thinking not a lot of people would figure it out. Augustus dying is like one of Hazel’s attacks. She drowns in the pain of his dead.
An Imperial Affliction: This is the novel that Hazel read over and over again. She finds this book interesting and doesn’t get tired of it. That novel is similar to what Hazel is going through because in the novel the Anna has cancer too. That book doesn’t tell what happens to Anna’s parents and considering Hazel compares this Novel to her life, she has to know what happens to Anna’s parents so that when Hazel dies she knows her family will be
