Hazing within the Military Humiliating, frightening, treacherous; these are all words that define hazing, which some consider to be a dehumanizing act. Hazing is not a new topic, nor can it be abolished. It has and will continue to happen throughout one’s life. The military, however, is an organization that hazing occurs more frequently than any other organization. Individuals feel many different needs to haze others such as to assert dominance, to initiate one into a group, and more significantly because the hazer lacks in sufficient occupational knowledge. Individuals who feel the need to haze often do not contemplate the long term effects it may cause. While there are multiple causes related to hazing, the effects always turn out negatively. Being superior and having power does not give one the right to assert dominance on a separate individual for no apparent reason. Within the military, there is always someone of higher ranking. In the military, some senior ranking members lack the essential occupational information to teach the newcomers which leads to hazing them instead. This is the worst type of hazing within the military. This breeds unknowledgeable individuals whom will in turn keep this type of hazing around. Additionally, it causes incompetent leaders for future generations. In turn, it will endanger any military personnel appoint under this type of leader. The lack of information will put multiple lives in jeopardy when faced with an enemy combat engagement, and will result in death. Leaders, do your due diligence to learn the information needed and pass it on to your newcomers in order to create competent leaders while saving lives in the
