People that suffer from head trauma like Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) have long term consequences but how does this affect their life and what are people suggesting to do about it? ALS and CTE are two forms of diseases to the brain that causes severe symptoms such as muscle weakness, memory loss, shortness of breath, and confusion. ALS is a rare disease with fewer than 20,000 cases per year found in the U.S. This type of disease affects nerve cells in the brain and in the spinal cord. CTE is some what similar to ALS but this other disease is commonly found in athletes with a history of repetitive brain trauma. It is impressive how CTE diagnosis can only be confirmed after death. As mentioned in the previous paragraph concussions and head trauma are common in athlete players who had been hit in the head several times. There is a test called the Impact Test that is used by doctors to measure the severeness of a concussion. The test consists of basic movements like grabbing a pencil, repeating words and answering personal questions to see if the person is back to normal. Although concussions last a few hours it is important to have the person constantly reacting to sound and light. Sometimes people who have had a concussion need to be tested every two years just to make sure everything is ok and that no new concussions have been made. It is said that girls have a greater chance of suffering from a concussion than boys because the composition of the neck and head are smaller. Girls are given more time to go back to the game as research shows that it takes extra time for them to recover. Although both boys and girls play similar sports, the boys sports are given more attention. People have been entertained with football for a long time. Plenty of the football athletes have recently complained about the new rules regarding safety in the field. At times, instead of the game entertainment, people are being lured into the drama a lot of sports have such as fights within the field, objects being thrown at each other, and corruption in the major leagues, that takes a greater approach into violence. Violence within the game only makes things worse because people play more rough in the field. Athletes need to realize that a game is not only about winning and fame, but it 's about playing in a professional way without having to hurt oneself or others.
