I volunteered at Mother Hubbard's Cupboard, an emergency food pantry, in Wilmington, North Carolina from 2012-2016. Throughout my four years of service, I learned how to handle almost all of the jobs available to volunteers, including packing packages for families with a stove or no-stove individuals, teaching new volunteers about the Cupboard and the jobs available, checking patrons in at the front desk, preparing hygiene supply packages for patrons, and working at various tables in the front to distribute various additional food to patrons. I am interested in serving on the Feed the Pack Leadership Team because I want to expand the overall impact and efficiency of Feed the Pack. I am committed to service and I want to lead a life of serving others, and I believe that working on the FTP Leadership team will allow me to continue to maximize my service efforts in the community and beyond.

7 / D.P7: Explain how different procedures maintain health and safety in a selected health or social care setting Maintaining health and safety in health and social care is extremely important to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all their service users as well as other individuals service providers may come in contact with in the setting. There are several procedures that help to maintain this health and safety however they can all vary between settings for example, health and safety procedures will be slightly different and more focused on certain areas in hospitals and especially in paediatric ward compared to in drop-in centres where the needs and risk to service users are slightly different. This is what makes us different from each other and also similar in many cases. With the diversity of opinions they often depict our relationship with others and who we are compatible with. From my experience, having a different opinion about something out of the majority is not necessarily a negative thing. The people I usually hang out with are understanding and may oppose my opinion with other reasoning why my opinion may be incorrect or not as good.
Describe the communication requirements of different audiences Knowing your audience helps you to choose which form of communication to use, for example, if I was speaking to a child I would speak calmly with a slightly high pitched voice as its more soothing towards the child, where as if I was talking to a teacher I would speak in my normal tone, depending on my relationship with the teacher, where as if I was talking to someone very important I would speak in a polite, professional manner. Different audiences require different communication styles. When communicating with other people, it is important to adapt to meet their needs. If you are trying to pass on information to someone outside of your department, it would be impractical to use technical jargon that they would not normally come across or use. When speaking to a customer who is upset or angry, you should remain calm and ensure that the instructions you give them are completely understood in order to avoid further confusion.

Dependency is one of the major factors that I believe will cause the divide between older patents and their caregivers. As professional health care workers, we need to be able to over look this and be able to provide the same expert care across all demographics of patients we encounter. To provide care we must be able to assess the patient accordingly without bias. Nurses should be able to evaluate the physiological, cognitive, and psychosocial health of the patient as well as their level of functionality and strength to determine if the patient is independent or dependent. As we provide care for this age group, we need to be able to be able to understand what happens during the aging process and normal age related changes.
