Ethiopia is located at the Horn of Africa. It is Africas oldest independent country. Its area is 1.1 million square meters and has a population of 75 million people. Ethiopia has many different nationalities and over 80 different languages. More than 85% of the population live in rural areas. Ethiopia is one of the least developed countries in the world with 47% of the population live in poverty and only 36 % of people above 15 years are literate. Ethiopia is a federal democratic republic with tree brances of governance and administration. The administrative structure comprises of nine regions, 80 zones, 551 districts and about 12 000 villages. The two cities Addis Ababa and Dire Dawa have separate administrations under the federal government. 44% of the population are under 15 years of age and 3% are over 65%.Life expectancy at birth is 54 years old. Ethiopias bigges economic income comes from the agricultural sector. (HSDP 2014)(CNHDE.)

Ethiopias healthcare system is among the least developed in Sub-Saharan Africa and it is not able to effectively cope with the significant health problems facing the country. Poverty, poor nutrition, low education, inadequate access to safe water, sanitation facilities and poor access to health services are the key reasons to the poor health situation in the country. There the Nordic countries signed the Trondheim Declaration where they commited themselves to increase Nordic collaboration for equal health and well-being in the Nordic region and also to reduce global health inequites. The declaration includes the Health 2020 program wich has a key role in the declaration. The WHO Regional Director for Europe Zsuzsanna Jakab praised the Nordic region about there active role in adressing social determinants of health in their public.
