Theories and frameworks provide a foundation for clinical inquiry, research, and quality improvement. Therefore, the project team carefully evaluated several theoretical frameworks supporting reducing burnout among nurse leaders. They selected Nola Pender's Health Promotion Model because it supports focusing on positive behaviors to reduce burnout. This theory is rich in evidence that prompts individuals to make choices that will enhance their happiness and well-being. Notably, practicing nurses use theories to define and clarify beliefs and values for patient care. Nola Pender's Health Promotions Model (HPM) is one theory relevant to the EBP education toolkit on resiliency. The HPM focused on explaining health-promoting behaviors using a wellness orientation (Polit & Beck, 2017, p. 123). The theory's basis revolves around developing resources to maintain or enhance well-being. Additionally, the HPM encompasses interpersonal and situational influences on a person's commitment to health-promoting behaviors (Peterson & Bredow, 2020). A value found in the HPM model is that people are more willing to invest in attainable goals to achieve the desired outcome (Peterson & Bredow, 2020). This change should be a health-promoting behavior that will mitigate the effect of burnout perception. The project's goal will be to identify the current state, implement a change and then examine the impact this change has on the perception of burnout among leaders through an education toolkit centered on resiliency. According to the literature synthesis summary (Appendix B), some common themes influence the sense of burnout among nurse leaders. The themes consistently identified are peer support, individual resilience, self-care, and work-life balance.
