It is time to take action. The problems within the U.S. health care system are only growing, and it is my generation’s duty to address them. With this in mind I realize the gravity of the time I spend at Baylor, as it will dictate the type of doctor I will become, along with what I will do to change the current state of health care. Firstly, I will take many of the higher-level science courses available at Baylor. These courses will challenge me and force me to think critically, a skill that will be necessary as a physician. I also plan to spend time participating in undergraduate research to put into practice my critical thinking, and to sharpen my ability to discover and create within medicine. These courses and research will train me to better understand the science aspects of medicine, leading me to be a more knowledgeable physician who knows how to treat his patients innovatively. …show more content…

Courses within marketing and economics will allow me to understand and begin to tackle the problem of high prices within health care, which I consider the largest problem at this point in time. Health care is currently very divided, and the range of amounts that different people pay for it is extremely wide. This division is partly due to our affinity for innovation and discovery, rather than a focus toward more prevalent diseases. This ultimately drives health care prices upward, causing incidents where hospitals and health organizations are charging significantly more than is reasonable for simple things like a bedside consultation. This issue needs to be solved, and taking business courses at Baylor will allow me to know how to work toward plausible future
