Medicare and Medicaid are two very important terms in our health care system. Medicare is defines as the federal health insurance program for people who are 65 or older, certain younger people with disabilities, and people with end-stage renal disease. Medicaid is defined as a joint federal and stage program that helps low-income families pay for costs with long-term medical and custodial care, if they qualify (MacTaggart and Hyatt, 2013, p.3). Medicare and Medicaid play a part in our long-term health care system in the United States. Long-term health care is medical and nonmedical care that is provided to individuals who are chronically ill or who have disabilities (MacTaggart and Hyatt, 2013, p. 1).
