Her mother enjoyed a free lifestyle with no sense of responsibility, while her father used what was earned for gambling, drinking, or women. Although the poverty Jeanette endoured in her childhood was always there to set its weight on her, it shaped her.

Through seeing his younger brother that is unemployed and will be having a child soon he looks beyond this and is genuinely proud of where he comes from. He realizes how strong his family is when he seems them fighting through poverty and making things.
In the story “Eleven” the girl named Rachel acts more like a child than a tween. Rachel acts more like a child than a tween because in the story the author mention that She cried like when she was three in front of everyone in her class. This proves that Rachel is a child because kids in my grade don’t cry like when they were three because they have to put on a sweater that isn’t theirs. Another reason Rachel acts more like a tween than a child is when the character Rachel Claims that her face was all hot and spit was coming out. Me, my friends, and every when else I know that’s eleven don’t throw fits especially like that.
In Louis Sachar’s book Holes, the protagonist Stanley Yelnats is sent to a correctional camp after being wrongly convicted for stealing donated sneakers. Stanley is born under a curse and is bullied because he is overweight and poor, giving the audience a misguided first impression of him as an unsuspecting hero. But throughout the course of the book, it shows that the protagonist unexpectedly develops into a hero who saves one of his best friends from turning into “buzzard food,” and unknowingly breaks the family curse. During Stanley’s ordeal stay at Camp Green Lake, he not only changes mentally to display heroic traits like altruism, perseverance and bravery he has also changed physically to be a stronger, healthier individual.

She begins by talking about her college experience of how her own professors and fellow students believed and “always portrayed the poor as shiftless, mindless, lazy, dishonest, and unworthy” (Paragraph 5). This experience shocked her because she never grew up materialistic. She brings up the fact that she is the person with the strong and good values that she has today because she grew up in a poor family. In culture, the poor are always being stereotyped.
After his parents died, he went to a group house/adoption center. Then a lady named Miss Edna adopted Lonnie. Miss Edna lives in a small home, but it is big enough to raise Lonnie. For Lonnie, the most common real-life issue found is getting over the parent's death and getting used to foster parents. I chose these because in Locomotion, Lonnie's parents died when Lonnie was just six years old and after 6 years Lonnie still hasn't moved on from her parent's death.
