Helen Keller had shaped and changed our perspectives of the world. At the age of 2, she was diagnosed with an unknown disease that had left her deaf and blind. Helen Keller soon made a book called The Story of My Life which was an autobiography about her 22 years of life as being deaf and blind. In the year 2000, a movie called The Miracle Worker was based off of Helen Keller during her childhood. Both the book and the movie were similar and different in many ways. Helen was an inspiration to many, and without her, we wouldn’t have many people to look up to. Firstly, one similarity between the book and the movie, was Helen learning what water meant. Both the book and the movie showed Helen learning what water meant with the pump. Ms. Sullivan grabbed Helen’s hand, pumped up the water, and let it stream down her hand. As water was on her hand, Ms. Sullivan spelled out w-a-t-e-r. Soon enough, Helen learned that specific things have names. Another similarity between the book and the movie, was Helen locking Ms. Sullivan in her room. After Helen learned how keys worked, she used it to lock Ms. Sullivan in her room. In the book, it recounted the 22 years of her life. However, in the movie, it only showed her childhood, and up to the point of Helen learning what water meant. Another difference between the book and the movie, was that the movie never showed Helen learning to speak. In the book, a teacher named Miss Fuller, taught Helen how to speak. She did this by letting Helen feel the position of her tongue as she made a sound. Helen would then try to imitate her words.
