My Bloody Life; The Making of a Latin King, by Reymundo Sanchez, Chicago Review Press: Chicago, July 2000. 320 pages. Reviewed by Kayla Kees. My Bloody Life; The Making of a Latin King was an enthralling, full-detailed autobiography that was well written.
The song “Que Falta Me Hace Mi Padre” by Vicente Fernandez is a spanish song. The song was released on September 26, 1996. The genre of his music is Rancheras which are really popular in Mexico where it original comes from. Vicente fernandez wrote this song in honor of his dad.
The Choice to be Made Andy, a sixteen year old boy in Hunter’s story “On The Sidewalk Bleeding,” wanted to be known as a Royal, but after representing his gang he attracted more attention to himself and got stabbed by a rival gang. So, while he laid in an alley bleeding out he decided to remove his Royals jacket so nobody would ignore his death. Then, he was found dead by Laura and a cop who got the wrong impression after finding the Royal’s jacket near Andy’s deceased body. In the author’s short story, he tells the last moments of Andy’s life to show regret is something that is likely to happen when people do not think about a life changing decision before they make it. Choices are important to think about thoroughly.
Que Vivan Los Tamales analyses the history of Mexico's evolving national identity via food. Mexican cuisine has changed dramatically from the the era of the aztecs, to the period of Spanish colonialism through to the Porfiriato dictatorship. Through these periods we we see food being used in a manner to unify the nation and create a national united identity. Below I will argue how the country attempted to unify its people though cuisine. In her short story “The Life You Save May be Your Own,” Flannery O’Connor uses characterization and symbolism to develop the theme that selfish actions lead to self destruction.
