Hero is a 2002 Chinese film. It takes place in ancient China during the Warring States period. A man with no name, Nameless, comes to Qin’s capital. He claims that he has murdered the King’s assassins, Long Sky, Flying Snow, and Broken Sword. Because of all the attempts to assassinate the King no one, besides the guards, were allowed within one hundred paces of the Kingdom. Since Nameless has supposedly killed all of the assassins and has their weapons he is allowed to approach the King and tell his story of how he murdered them all and to show the King their weapons. Nameless says he kills Long Sky during a dual and takes his sword. Next he goes to the calligraphy school in the Zhao state where Snow and Sword learn to write. As the story continues to unfold the King starts to second guess Nameless because he is in disbelief that they Sword and Snow would turn against each other. Nameless admits to the Zhao state and he is there to avenge his family that was killed by the Qin soldiers. He also admits that he gets Sky to let him kill him for the good of the country and that he asked Snow and Sword to fake a duel as well. Sword did not want this to happen though. He waited for Nameless to leave to head to the Kingdom and he stopped to tell him that the only way to get peace was to unite the warring states under the Qin name. When Nameless examines the scroll that Sword made he realizes Sword had never had any intention of killing the King he decides against killing the King. The King was touched by Sword’s thoughts. The King orders Nameless to be executed at the Qin palace. The King uses him as an example and he must kill him to unify China. At the end of the movie, Nameless gets a hero’s funeral and the king of Qin unites the warring states and China unites as a
