A hero is known for his or her outstanding positive activities. In the story To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, the character Atticus Finch is known town-wide as a hero for his kind-hearted thoughts. In reality Malala Yousafzai is also known as a hero for her work in promotion or girls’ educational rights. Malala is a young adult who has been fighting for girls’ rights to go to school across the world. When Malala was just 15 years old she was targeted by the Taliban because she chose to speak against the Taliban for denying her education; later, that year she was shot in the face. Although Malala had a major setback, she is continuing to fight for what she believes in. Atticus is a single father, who lives in Maycomb, Alabama during the Great Depression, with one rambunctious child Scout and another brave …show more content…

When a case is thrown at him, where the race of the defendant, Tom Robinson, is a very important part of the case, he tries to make the jury believe that Tom is their equal, not a dirty black man. The jury chose to believe that Tom was guilty, based off of the testimony of Mr. Heck Tate, Mayella and Bob Ewell. Malala and Atticus have unwavering beliefs that they stand up for, making them heros. Having unwavering beliefs makes Malala and Atticus heros. Heros must possess this quality because if they were to give up on their beliefs they would no longer be pushing for change. While Atticus is giving his closing speech to the jury he says, “‘Our courts have their faults, as does any human institution, but in this country our courts are the great levelers, and in our courts all men are created equal (Lee 205).’” During the Great Depression, there was not much support for the black community. Most of the black workers were the first to be fired from their job and not aided by the relief programs. Atticus is showing support for the black community by taking Tom Robinson’s case.
