My questions may never be answered but I can definitely find the answer by comparing, my own culture to those around me, developing the explanation on my own, and learning new things along the
In the day and age of shopaholics and fashion trends changing every week, looking into the history of JcPenney, a retail giant, is long overdue. JcPenney was founded by James Cash Penney. Before opening his highly successful retail store, he first worked as a sales person for the Golden Rule Mercantile Company ("J.C. Penney Company,”). After three years as a salesman, the founder of the company and his partner promoted Mr. Penney to a manager and partner of the company. Ultimately, this prompted him to opening his own branch of Golden Rule with a cash only policy which bankers in the area were sure that his plan would fail.
Who is JC Penney in the landscape of retailers today? Is JC Penney a store of the future or a thing of the past? JC Penney stores started as the brainchild of James Cash Penney in 1902 in Kemmer, Wyoming. Originally, JC Penney stores were small, local storefronts offering a variety of merchandise.
The Warm-Up When reading Ptah-Hotep’s ancient text I stumbled across muliple lines as well as quotes that really captured my attention. In my first selection Ptah-Hotep was discussing how one’s good conduct can be preserved, stating “If you desire that your conduct should be good and preserved from all evil, keep yourself from every attack of bad humor.” This quote was extremely relatable and can be compared to a multifold of teachings and sayings to date. Comparable in current times to when people convey quotes as in “Don't let the little things get too you”, or “Sticks and stones can break my bones but words will never hurt me.” I believe Ptah-Hotep was stating that if you want to be a good person who lives life to according to your own ethically standing of good.
“The man who has everything figured out is a fool...it takes a smart fella to say, ‘I don’t know the answer’ ” (Lawrence and Lee 55). This quote was stated by Henry Drummond, a protagonist in the play Inherit the Wind, written by Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee. The quote is ironic because Drummond is stating that although it is important to know the truth behind something, it is just as important to know when an individual is wrong. In the play, one learns how the surface of things never truly reveals how they really are.
1. If given the power, I would support and convert the US system into a direct democracy which means the winner of the presidential popular vote would win the presidency. On page 182 in the book, it states that a direct democracy enables all actors with a voice (the ability to vote) to make decisions on the matter at hand. Furthermore, a direct democracy provides voice to those affected by the issue.
Although the intention of the Articles of Confederation was to create a stable government for the 13 colonies, it was sadly designed poorly resulting in an overall ineffective government. The Articles may have been rewarded with some success with respect to western lands, but the overall effect was negative, especially the economic conditions. The economic conditions were primarily the most negative aspect of the Articles of Confederation. The inability to tax settlers caused the federal government to have a serious shortfall in revenue, and the restriction to regulate trade added to the chaos.
On Sunny day of 1918, streets were filled with joy and laughter as parade was on its peak. Few parade teams passed audience and entertained them. soon, clicking sounds of hard boot heel echoed the city. As the noise got larger, number of battalions marched down the street. Group kids ran to see them close and one of them actually made through the crowds.
He claims, “You hang by a slender thread, with the flames of divine wrath flashing about it... you have...nothing to lay hold of to save yourself, nothing too keep off the flames of wrath, nothing of your own, nothing that you have ever done, nothing that you can do, to induce God to spare you one moment” (21). Through the use of repetition, the preacher emphasizes his belief that there is nothing man can do to avoid the wrath of God. However, he believes there is a way to lessen that wrath.
Jack Ma once said, “The world needs new leadership, but the new leadership is about working together.” This could not be more true at Boston University through its Kilachand Honors College. I believe it is because their approach of interdisciplinary problem-solving, is about expanding students’ world-views. In this program you are learning with different individuals who have different interest and fields of study. According to Pew Research Center, “Political polarization is the defining feature of early 21st century American politics...”.
“Y’all might be a redneck if you stand under the mistletoe at Christmas and wait for Granny and cousin Bobby Sue Ellen to walk by.” Laugh or be offended, rednecks can relate to this statement because they have a brother, a close friend, or they are like the man in the redneck joke. The truth is that many rednecks say y’all (not you guys) and they do have names like Billy Joe and Jerry Don. This analysis is only a part of all the cultural words that rednecks have that make their lingo so unique. By exploring a particular culture or a subgroup in a culture, sociolinguistics can be used to analyze languages (or in this case the redneck lingo).
Furthermore, the author uses this quote to promote the retaliation against silence. “I will not let silence wrap itself around my indecision. I will tell Christian that he is a lion, a sanctuary of bravery and brilliance. I will ask that
In the book “I am the messenger” by Markus Zusak, we see Ed being lead through somewhat dangerous scenarios or uncomfortable situations by an unknown person. He helps out an old woman who was lonely, a girl who didn’t believe in herself, save a women from being rape, a priest getting his church running etc... In each address he was able to save someone’s life or make it better, all of this to try to demonstrate he was something more than just a taxi driver. The justification of Ed’s actions came from his deep desires of being a good son to his mother just like his siblings, doing something more in his life to gain the respect of others and wanted
Hi Peeps, Today's Quote "Mankind has been stealing land and enslaving people from the beginning of time, as we chose to steal the fruit of good and evil from the tree that God created and said not to eat from it!" ~ Jon Barnes Understanding The study of God is full of enrichment, excitement, motivation, and wisdom, as I muse his words and ways beyond any scientific vision. I'm pleased to live and see such marvel, wonder, and splendor.
Many times I myself was tempted to question something, before I would remind myself that I could not incorporate earthly logic into the high meanings of Scripture. So for most of my childhood, I avoiding asking myself penetrating questions about what I had been taught, and about
