Imagine you're a young child and listen to the stories of your grandpa about him doing something you could never ever imagine. Into Thin Air gives this sense of one on one conversation and how he is telling us like a grandfather. So you grab your cookies and milk and listen to him speak. This book Into Thin Air is a true story book about a tragedy that happened in the year 1996. We will see Jon Krakuers point of view of everything. Jon Krakuer´s Into Thin Air should be a component in the 10th-grade curriculum due to Its great use of hidden themes and symbolism,use of historical evidence,and strong literary devices. For example when talking to a doctor or any higher ranking person in society he would use the phrases such as ¨sir¨ and ¨mister¨. (Krakauer 5,11,15) If John didn't know the guy as well and came off as a lower class citizen Jon would be nearly making fun of them. Example of this in the story is when John was talking to a grizzly bear built guy and called him ¨Big Boy ̈.(Krakauer 137), then followed this up with the term ¨sweetheart¨. The fact that these 2 phrases completely contradict themselves is showing how we use hypocrisy in most of our lives. This really conveys how Jon can relate to us through just his choice of words. This engages us as highschool students because we look at certain groups of people and think they are weird or different compared to us but we don 't know what they have had to go through and if they have similar interests to us. In the book it has a lot of numbers about it. ¨A total of 15 people died on one trip in the spring of 1996¨ (History.com Editors). As we can see from this it wasn't likely that you came back down. That was because of the lack of technology in the oxygen masks. You can better your understanding of this information based on the title. Into thin air is saying that they can barely breathe in the air. The two climbers failed to return in¨ (Krakauer 2). The two climbers failed to return even though they were world renowned climbers. Their bodies were just sitting at the top of the mountain until somebody found them. Even though these two had great backgrounds they were not prepared for what they had in front of them.
