My appointment to General McLane’s LINK Crew is an amazing opportunity to gain leadership training and utilize it within my local community. LINK Crew is a faculty-appointed organization that utilizes forty driven juniors and seniors to help transfer students and incoming freshman become orientated to the high school culture and rules. Leaders act as student mentors for new kids by helping them find their classes, teaching them small life-lessons, and introducing them to faculty, teachers, and other new students. Each year, we go through over fifteen hours of training regarding leadership, public speaking, and communication skills in order to present to new students several times a year. We also act as leaders within sports, academic, extracurricular,
Nature’s Testing Grounds Outward bound is a camping expedition that features a seven-mile hike through the Appalachian Mountains. Myself along with several other students signed up to participate. The year was 2012,my tenth grade year. The only requirements were boots and the basic necessities (no electronics allowed). Little did I know Outward bound was going to be filled with excitement, pain and satisfaction.
The freedom summer, also known as the Mississippi Summer project, was the nonviolent attempt for a voter registration drive organized by a series of civil rights organizations, those including Congress on Racial Equality (CORE), the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). This historical event took place in Mississippi in the summer of 1964. The main focus of this project was, as mention earlier, the voter registration drive, which intended to gather as many colored Mississippians to join the electoral register. But as suspected, may of this registration were denied by the officials, which was a callous act of injustice. As a result, the organizers formed
In the spring of my freshman year, I was faced with something I had never faced before. I either had to choose my friends and spring break or basketball. I loved basketball, but at the same time, I realized that freshman year was the year to make a lot of friends. All I had heard in the past month was my friends talking about Spring Break. I knew that basketball would take place every single weekend until August 1st.
In the next few minutes I will show you the problems that educators and children, in the public school system, face because of the traditional, but out-dated calendar. I will then introduce you to some of the aspects of year-round school and show you how it is a better alternative than the current nine month calendar. There are, as I see it, 4 key issues that illustrate why the nine-month calendar is a problem. First, it is a 100-year-old system that was implemented to accommodate an agrarian society.
According to TeacherHUB.com, two million children are attending year-round schools. Would the United States fully adopting a year-round schedule benefit the school systems? Switching to a year-round school schedule is highly debated in the United States. Some states and counties have adopted the year-round school schedule in hopes to “avoid the dreaded ‘brain drain’ that students experience during summer vacation”, increasing test scores, and all-around student wellness (Chen 2). Most students would not like a year-round schedule because students already do not like a traditional ten month schedule.
The National Honor Society is an opportunity for many students, who are well educated with dreams and leaderships skills, to upgrade themselves. The sole purpose of this organization is to endeavor leaders in different societies to help out their community. It will help colleges to notify the leaders when looking at students’ resumes, for those students in this organization will be the few who are well-developed leaders in their school. Since this will be the first time to be given the opportunity to contribute to this organization, I may not know everything about the requirements in which I need to manage.
Think about those last words your principal says as you're running out of the school doors......... That could be gone forever. You will never hear those words again!
Should school be year round with more breaks to improve education? My opinion is no, I think it’s a bad idea to have school year round. Having year round would have a negative impact on the students, they wouldn’t be able to spend as much time with family, and no time for themselves. Having school year round would have a negative impact on the students.

1. You 're going to have higher expectations As the favorite kid, you are expected to have good grades, not get in behavioral trouble, and have common sense. For good grades, it isn 't complicated, believe it or not. All you really have to do is sit and listen.
Each season is absolutely stunning and unique in its’ own way. Everyone has a favorite season, but I love them all. The way the weather changes and how nature shifts is unexplainable. Summer can be defined as hot days, ice cream, and cool nights. The best thing about summer would be Independence Day, the bright fireworks light up the night sky.
High school has provided me with many opportunities to develop and apply my leadership skills. One of my greatest achievements was becoming the Student Government President after serving as Student Government Vice President as a junior and as Class Vice President in 9th and 10th grades. As President, I have the responsibility of conducting Student Government meetings and planning a variety of activities. Through Student Government, I attended the annual Leadership Conference at SUNY Geneseo twice. I have also been a member of the National Honor Society since 10th grade and currently serve as secretary.
The first thing I want to bring to the cohort would be my leadership experiences. I know that I share Duke’s value of placing great emphasize on the sense of community for the students and I always have a strong commitment to the organization that I’m involve with. During my second year at AIESEC (the world’s largest student run organization), the previous executive team left unexpectedly during a crisis. The organization was on the verge of collapsing.
Now a days kids don't always have time to study for every single class and them having to make the honor roll will stress kids out. Kids are already stressed out with the amounts of homework and tests given out. Students don't always have the time to study and do homework every day after school. They are going to have practice and games every day after school. Then they will go home and eat and do all that stuff and it will be late.
