Highway 13 Bus #20 rumbled past as I hopped off toward home. Storm clouds blanketed me overhead while I skipped up the driveway full of twisty turns. Past the crazy lady 's hoarder shack and up to my roly-poly of a dog, Buddy. I sang out my hellos to Buddy ,the most laid-back dog I know, and made my way into my house. When I tumbled inside, I squeaked out a big, ¨HELLO, I 'M HOME!¨ A silence was the only thing that meet my ears. For a few minutes, I stood in the doorway as patiently as a kindergartener can. When I couldn 't take it any longer, I searched throughout the house with angst. Anxiety made my heart pound a million times per second. To calm down, I stepped into the shower. The hot water relaxed me, but through the open door, I …show more content…

After a little bit, I came to the conclusion that instead of sitting around, I should go and find someone. I knew my dad worked in town a little ways, and it was only about a mile away. So I set off on my journey to find my father. It was pouring rain outside, but I was not going to let that stop me. I also didn 't quite know how to tie my shoes yet, so I decided it was best to just ditch them. Off I went back down the driveway leading up to the highway. My dog trailed behind, but turned around when we approached the highway. ¨Whussy,” I thought. The gravel pierced into my feet like a sword and the rain drenched me. Soon I could not hold back how terrified I was being all alone. Fear tormented me like a crude bully. My tears mixed with the rain on my rosy cheeks. I didn 't think this impossible journey would ever end. I sank to the ground in grief as my body shivered profusely, but as I thought of my dad a surge of energy pushed me forward. Finally, after what seemed like a decade, I made to my dad 's funeral home. When I opened the big, white doors warmness spread over my skin, as if the sun was lurking somewhere inside the …show more content…

I walked into my dad 's office trying to keep it together, but after a second I could not hold it in. I cried out, “Dad!¨ My dad turned around and shook his head in disbelief. “What the heck are you doing here?” he said. “I just needed to see you,” I replied. Then he took out the phone and called my mom to come and get me. Afterwards, when I was at home again, I was swarmed with huge blankets and bowls of hot soup. My mom was a wreck. She could not believe that I would walk all that way to my dad 's office alone. ¨I 'm so sorry I forgot about you! I thought your sister or brother would be home, but that is not an excuse. You will never do that again,¨ she hollered. If this ever happened again, I would do it differently, but I learned that sometimes you just have to trust in yourself to get what you want because no one else is going to do it
