Free College Tuition From Bernie Sanders Bernie Sanders believes that college tuition isn’t in the interest for our country’s future. Bernie Sanders states “It is insane and counter-productive to the best interests of our country and our future, that hundreds of thousands of bright young people cannot afford to go to college” (Bernie). Bernie Sanders’ point is that many of the talented people in our society may not be able to pursue their dreams or pursue their desired job because they and their parents can’t afford college. If Bernie Sanders is right that many Americans can’t afford to go to college, as I think they are, then we need to reassess the popular belief that FAFSA and other scholarships will considerably lower the price for college.

For the 2016 presidential election I will be eighteen years old, so I plan to vote for Bernie Sanders. Bernie Sanders seems like a good candidate to be elected as the new president of the United States because he cares about us the people. A few reasons why Bernie Sanders would make an excellent president are because he plans to make college free, open work opportunities, and give everyone a reasonable work wage with those new jobs. However, the most important reason for me as a woman would be Bernie’s proposal to fight for women’s rights.

Student loans are then causing debt, that later affects a students’ life in numerous ways. College students today, tend to lean towards nicer looking colleges, rather than a higher education.
In this day and age, it is assumed that the majority of high school graduates will be attending college, whether a two year community college or a four year college or university. The problem with this expectation of young people is that college is expensive, which is why numerous people are pushing towards free college for all, not just for the academically talented. While overall publicly funded college is unrealistic, this country could slowly overcome this issue of college debt by providing more two year community colleges across the nation with the tuition of these community colleges drastically reduced. Many people dream of a life filled with riches, but that dream is hard to obtain without a college degree. It is somewhat ironic how people dream of being a successful student and going to college but the cost of tuition turns that dream into a horrible nightmare. It is not a shock to most people when they that college tuition is expensive, but in the past few years it has increased to an all-time high. Lower and middle class students have now begun to realize that college tuition is holding them away from their dreams. Even though college tuition could provide opportunities for job creation and economic growth, tuition is not affordable for the average American household which in effect, prohibits students from taking opportunities like going to college in the first place.
However, it is still an issue for students to cough up that money. The idea of making community college free to any student in America has been a dream for low income students for a while. President Obama’s desire to make the tuition of community college to everyone in the nation would only make it difficult for students to get a free education, limit them to essential resources, and discourage students from applying to four year universities. Granting free community college tuition to incoming freshmen will draw “more students to already crowded community colleges”. Along with the overcrowded campuses, a very long waiting list will soon form making it just as competitive to get into a four year university.
The total U.S. student loan debt now surpasses $1.2 trillion and there is more than 40 million recipients owing on federal and private student loans (Malone). Most of the college students in the United States can’t afford their education by themselves and, as a result, students end up drowning in student loans in order to earn a degree. Student debt is a major problem in the US, and it is a major influence on the gap between rich and poor. A more accessible college education would help reduce the gap between rich and poor in the United States.
If we made college free for everyone we would be funding the rich. Families that have the money to pay for some or all of the cost of a college education might choose instead to take advantage of free college at a public institution. Amelia Josephson said, “In effect, the government and taxpayers would be subsidizing the rich. Critics of free college who point to this drawback often argue that a more targeted reform subsidizing college for the poor and the middle class would make more sense. They also point to the example of Brazil, a country with free college where wealthy students reap a lot of the benefits of tuition-free education at public universities.”
The financial burdens that college leaves with the families and students needs to be addressed as student loans keep racking up over time. The cost of tuition for colleges has risen drastically over the years and has bounded students to only one or two college choices to choose from and at some points tearing away the opportunity to go to their dream college. However, one reason college has driven up in price is because the value it brings with it’s degrees, but it should not limit those who can not afford the worthy degree. College should be cheaper as it will ease financial burdens and broaden the choices of those wanting to attend

The first two years of college should be free. In the first two years of college, we are practically relearning everything that we have already learned in high school. It's completely ludicrous to make us pay for classes that we already know the material for.

College education should not be offered for free to all students because of the missed opportunities and unintended costs of free education are very expensive. Students don’t take advantage of the opportunities they are provided in high school, like dual-enrollment, that could save them time and money in college.
