As Catholics, it is imperative that we develop a conscience guided by the teachings of the Church that helps us participate in government. The Church has outlined moral issues that exist in today’s society and where the Church stands on these issues. The current presidential candidates have taken stands on these issues, but no candidate supports every Catholic viewpoint. Therefore, when deciding on a president, we must decide which issues have the greatest significance and can help society grow closer to God. We must also decide which candidate will support the common good and the dignity of the person. That being said, the presidential candidate that is the best choice for a Catholic who wishes to be a Faithful Citizen is Hillary Clinton. One issue explained in the “Faithful Citizenship” article describes the morality of immigration. One the second page on part II, the article calls us to reform immigration so it “offers a path to citizenship, treats immigrant workers fairly, and prevents the separation of families.” The article explains that we must give all people the same rights that Americans have. Poverty is a growing issue in our country, and the Catholic Church is calling for us to “help families and children overcome poverty and ensure access to and choice in education.” Hillary Clinton calls for an addition of jobs in infrastructure and manufacturing, which will bring back much needed blue collar jobs that will help families with less education achieve a livable wage. She wants to help eliminate homelessness which has plagued for too many people in America. She also has plans to renovate poor urban areas that are filled with poverty and children in need. Clinton wants to make education more accessible and modernize the education system to accommodate all
