Analysis of Hillary Clinton’s Women's Rights Speech
Hillary Clinton is a very hardworking and powerful woman in American History. Clinton made history by becoming the first, first lady to win a spot in elective office while supporting alongside her husband, President Bill Clinton (“Hillary Clinton”). I found this interesting, because it shows how she went against the traditional role of other first lady’s before. She continued to work and became an important person in the elective office, not just wife to President Clinton (“Hillary Clinton”). In fact, a persuasive technique used prominently and impactfully was repetition which emphasized many important parts of her speech. “That is why every woman, every man, every child, every family, and every nation on this planet does have a stake in the discussion that takes place here” (Address to the United Nations 4th World Congress on Women). Throughout Clinton’s speech you see many words used over and over again to emphasize her points and views. In addition, another technique would be antithesis, used to make points more influential and heard by her listeners. “However different we may appear, there is far more that unites us than divides us” (Address to the United Nations 4th World Congress on Women). Clinton is telling the listeners that even with our differences, we may still come together as one. The final, but not last reason her speech is persuasive is shown through her use of tone, which gained a sense of comfort and appeal to her audience. “If there is one message that echoes forth from this conference, let it be that human rights are women’s rights and women’s rights are human rights once and for all. Let us not forget that among those rights are the right to speak freely -- and the right to be heard” (Address to the United Nations 4th World Congress on Women). To clarify, as Clinton gave her speech at the women’s conference, she connected with her audience and showed that undeniable passion she has on women’s rights in the world. That same passion helped her gain many followers that allowed her to continue to share and voice on important
