Every four years on November 8th, a presidential election is held. When a president has served two terms and can no longer serve, all new candidates run for office. As a democratic republic, this country needs a leader who will make decisions in favor of the people of their nation. Last year during the DNC (Democratic National Convention) in October, former First Lady Michelle Obama gave a speech regarding the upcoming election. The purpose of her speech was to encourage her audience, those present with her and those watching her on their televisions, to elect Hillary Clinton as President of the United States. Obama was highly regarded as a First Lady because she took part in making decisions for the children in the United States. Having two children of her own, she knows what they need in order to be successful. This is where President Elect Hillary Clinton comes into play. In Michelle Obama’s own words: “...in this election, I’m with her.” Preceding these words, Mrs. Obama tells her audience what would make Mrs. Clinton a good president for the United States. She presents her own opinion but backs it up with facts, using logos with merit. Mrs. Obama has seen Mrs. Clinton’s life-long devotion to the nation’s children--advocating for kids with disabilities, and fighting for children’s health care and for quality child care. Mrs. Obama speaks of Hillary Clinton’s character. She tells the audience about Mrs. Clinton’s grit and perseverance and makes an effort to back this up with the fact that she lost the election eight years ago and didn’t get discouraged because she genuinely cares about the country. She doesn’t only mentions what she has done for the children, she mentions the roles she’s taken in the government: First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State. These roles are another important quality to Mrs. Obama of the president-to-be. She wants the country to have a president who knows their job and has had experience in the field of government.
