Comparing and Contrasting Christianity and Hinduism
Around 2.3 billion people practice Christianity worldwide (Wraight 12). They mainly practice in North America, South America and Europe (World-faiths.com). In the U.S. around 224 million people practice Christianity (Pewforum.org). Christianity originated in Israel in 30 AD. Hinduism is practiced by around 1.1 billion worldwide (Christians Remain), mainly in India and Nepal (Religion; Hinduism). There are 2.23 million Hindus in the U.S (Religioustolerance.org), and Hinduism originated in India in 1500 BC (Religion; Hinduism). One difference is Hinduism does not have a specific significant figure, while Christianity has a couple, for example Saint Paul and Jesus.. Another difference is Hinduism is a very old religion, starting in 1500 BC, while Christianity is a little more recent, starting in 30 AD. One similarity is Christianity and Hinduism both started around southern Asia. Hinduism started in the Indus River Valley civilization, in India, and Christianity started in the holy land of Israel. Christians believe in many things, and one is original sin. This is the result of when God first created the world. The first two people God created disobeyed him and this caused everyone to be born with original sin (Religion; Christianity). It is considered to be the thing that separates people from God. Baptism, by washing the sin away with blessings and the Holy Spirit, and obeying God destroys original sin. Another thing Christians believe in is that Jesus rose again after his death. Christians see it as proof that there is life after death. Christians also believe that when a person dies, he or she either goes to Heaven or Hell. Heaven is a place of joy and happiness, while Hell is depicted as a horrible place of suffering. They also believe that Jesus died on the cross to save everyone from their sins. Another thing they believe in is a second coming of Jesus. They believe that He will come again to judge the living and the dead, and that Jesus will invite some to Heaven and cast some down to Hell. If a person follow God’s commandments and are kind and welcoming to everyone, He will invite them to Heaven. However, if that person does not follow his commandments, they will be cast down to Hell. Christians also believe in the Ten Commandments, which are a set of rules to live by. These rules were written to Jesus and sent down with Moses the prophet. Some of them are
