In 1945, Japan was losing World War Two, but was split between surrendering or fighting till the end. As they chose to fight instead of surrender, that is when Harry Truman was notified about the successful test of the “most terrible bomb in history”. Multiple hours were spent doing research, and billions of dollars were used for its production. Since an atomic bomb is serious the heat released in a nuclear explosion creates a sphere of burning gas that can range from hundreds of feet. Since Harry Truman was president at the time it was his decision whether or not he was going to use the bomb to end the war.
President Truman once said, "America was not built on fear. America was built on courage, on imagination and an unbeatable determination to do the job at hand. " He was the current president during the last years of WW II. By 1945, the only axis power remaining in the war was Japan. The other main axis power, Germany, had just surrendered, leaving Japan to fight America in the Pacific.
Following WWII, in 1945, the division of Korea was initiated. The Soviet Union established a pro-communist government on the Northside of Korea and Americans created a pro-democratic government on the Southside of Korea. After the division, known as the 38th parallel, occurred, North Korea began to attack again. This attack consisted of both the South and North pushing each other farther from the 38th parallel until the Chinese troops drove them back to the 38th parallel. The United States and The Soviet Union knew the war was not going anywhere but still persisted to continue.
Wilfred Burchett, an Australian Journalist visited the once thriving Japanese city of Hiroshima, just one month after the devastating atomic bomb and did not approve of the devastation it caused. The bomb (little boy) was dropped over the city, killing over 70,000 people and injuring the same number. He was the first correspondent to enter Hiroshima after the bomb was dropped. “I was people in who … are dying … from these effects of bombing … They lost their appetites, their hair fell out … their flesh began rotting away from their bones” (Source A.).
The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki devastated the people of these cities. This, however, ended the conflict between the U.S. and Japan, but was it a good idea for the U.S.? Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed, and over one-hundred fifty thousand people were killed in the atomic bombings of Japan. The bombings by the United States were necessary because Japan was a powerful adversary that the United States needed to overcome in order to defeat Germany. They had started World War Two and put the Jewish people and gypsies and people they deemed not good enough for society in concentration camps.
When Japan refused to surrender unconditionally the U.S. decided to nuke them, this was very controversial but looking back the U.S. made the right decision. Although it was seen as immoral, the U.S. made the right decision because if the U.S. didn’t nuke Japan, Russia would of taken over Asia and quite possibly Europe, it was the quickest way to end the war and the one that cost the least American lives, and nukes are weapons of war and Japan was the enemy. If the U.S. didn’t drop the atomic bomb Russia would of taken over Asia and quite possibly Europe. In document E “Mr. Byrnes was much concerned about the spreading of Russian influence in Europe.” The Mr. Byrnes it talks about was then announced Secretary of state 2 weeks after.
Was America right to use atomic weapons against Japan? The dropping of the atomic bomb in Japan at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, was the end of WWII. However, there has been much conflict considering the use of the bomb. In this essay, I will discuss reasons from both sides of the argument and justify my opinion.
Japan launched a surprise attack on the United States Pacific fleet at Pearl Harbor, on December 7, 1941. In response, the United States declared war on Japan. America gained victory in the Battle of Midway in June 1942. The Japanese suffered a lot of losses. In early 1945, American forces suffered heavy losses during the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
During WWII there were many deaths and terrible battles but the worst of all of them was America dropping the Atomic Bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This tactic of bombing a city was the wrong decision by America, it was completely barbaric and was an act of total war something no country should ever use. The main issues with this decision was that it wasn’t an attack on a military base like Pearl Harbor but it was an attack on a populated city and Japan was prepared to surrender because they knew America and the Allied Powers would win the war. The main argument others have is that the Atomic bomb saved lives by creating a fast end to the war so it wouldn’t be strung out resulting in more deaths on both sides but Japan was prepared to surrender
During World War II, two atomic bombs were dropped on the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. This was done in an attempt to have the Japanese surrender to the allied powers. After and during the war, many people were debating the dropping of the bombs. While both sides had their opinions, not dropping the bomb had the most to back it up. For instance, people discussed the dangerous military and political implications with such a weapon, the number of casualties, and how destructive it was.
World War II was the bloodiest war in world history that led to reorientation of both economic and social axiomatic patterns such as new conserving methods and contributing to the war effort. The violence between the United States and Japan, beginning with the bombing of Pearl Harbor, led to hundreds of thousands of casualties for both countries. To ensure a rapid victory for the United States, atomic bombs were dropped at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. These nuclear bombs were authorized, to be used at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, by President Harry Truman. The decision to deploy atomic bombs in Japan was the wrong decision, due to the dwindling Japanese military power already leading to a surrender, the massive amounts of destruction brought upon Japan
For years after the war and even today, people have debated over a massive question. Should the Americans have dropped nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during WWII? There may never be a correct answer. In my own opinion, the U.S. made no mistake in dropping the two nuclear bombs on Japan.
JFK once said, " Mankind must put an end to war or war will put an end to mankind." In 1939 Albert Einstein had written the US president of the potential to build a nuclear weapon. The US entrance into the war on December 7th of 1941 led to the president creating the Manhattan Project in 1942 where the atomic bomb was developed. On August 6th of 1945 US president Truman ordered the bombing of Hiroshima using the atomic bomb, 3 days later he ordered a second bomb to be dropped in Nagasaki. The US was justified in using the atomic bomb to end WWII because, America's technology was their greatest achievement, during the time of war death is inevitable, and Japan ignored all warnings given by America.
Imagine a world where World War 2 took two more years, four million more people died, and the U.S. didn’t drop the atomic bomb. All of this would have happened if we didn’t drop the atomic bomb when we did. The U.S. did the right thing by dropping the bomb because if we didn’t drop it more lives would have been lost, we would have ran out of supplies, and finally Japan attacked the U.S. first with zero warning. Many people think the atomic bomb shouldn’t have been dropped but our group thinks it was necessary to do to save our country. - Ben First, the U.S. should have dropped the bomb on Japan because without the bomb, more lives could have been lost from both sides.
The dropping of the atomic bombs on World War II on the city of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a very important part of World War II. The atomic bomb ended the war between America and Japan. This was just one of the important events during the battle in World War II. The Battle at Pearl Harbor, where the Japanese attacked U.S. soil was also why the americans bombed Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Some believe that the United States was correct in dropping these bombs on Japan because of the attack on Pearl Harbor while others believe that it was very wrong to dropped the bomb.
