Human relationships are a very complex system that has taken science and psychology years to figure out. Any human relationship needs fundamentals and basics to run smoothly. Communication is part of the most important aspects of a healthy relationship, especially when crossing genders. Men typically are straightforward, while women like to say as much detail as possible. Two different articles (“His Talk, Her Talk” and “Man to Man, Woman to Woman”) discuss the different communication styles of men and women and how they affect the relationship. In my opinion “His Talk, Her Talk” would be a much better candidate than “Man to Man, Woman to Woman” because it is written in a more friendly tone, and written as a first person narrative. “His Talk, Her Talk” by Joyce Maynard is an article she wrote discussing the events of a night with her husband and their friends. Sherman and Adelaide Haas, is an article that claims that there is a difference in the way males and females converse and hold communication, and that men and women simply choose different interests. They speak about mostly facts and studies, stating that women are generally better listeners, while men are better speakers. They continue with stating differences and similarities of male and female communications, such as the favorable topics effect of both genders. In my opinion, “His Talk, Her Talk” is a better article for newlywed couples because it is written in a more relatable tone than “Man to Man, Woman to Woman.” Maynard writes her article in first person and in a narrative tone, which always appeals to younger audiences. Sherman’s article is written more on facts and studies, which would quickly bore any young couple. Younger couples are more motivated by relatable topics, than percentages and charts.
