How the mexicans became a colony is Spanish Conquistadores,led by Hernan Cortes,allied themselves with Tlaxcalan tribes to conquer the Aztecs,who were the most important civilization in Mexico at the time. With the aid of these tribes, plus the effects of smallpox disease that killed many of the native inhabitants, that finally conquered the lands now named as Mexico at the Fall of Tenochtitlan (capital city of the Aztecs) on August 13, 1521. Since that day, until September 27,1821 Mexico became a colony of spain. In the early 19th century, Napoleon’s occupation of Spain led to the outbreak of revolts all across Spanish American.
The two articles that I read for this assignment are called “Hispanic Heritage”. I have decided to read about this mainly because I did not understand why Latinos celebrate “Hispanic Heritage” in the USA. This celebration is completely unknown in Latin countries. Most people have never heard until they are in the USA. During the Hispanic Heritage Month people commemorate with this event in order to recognize the contributions that Hispanics make to the USA.
As a matter of fact, a cultural explanation of Hispanic people would include an understanding of certain values and traits such as: gender roles, overall values, religious or spiritual beliefs, child discipline, clothing preference, communication and unusual customs
Since the dawn of time Texas has been a revolutionary place where many cultures manifested and changed. Latino Culture has obviously been a major influence on Texas overall, this can be taken from the name itself and other things. Not only does “Texas” derive from spanish origin, but the progress of Latin culture into America and the civil rights movement has gone a long way and truly made a foundation for Texas since the 1500s . The majority of latinos in Texas can trace their ancestry to the racial mixture that happened after the conquest of Mexico by Spain near the 1520s.
Being Hispanic to me is the strength the culture has given me to not give up. Hispanics in the United States face many struggles, not only when many decide to move to this country, but also the issues faced in the countries we come from. Being Hispanic has giving me values and responsibilities to represent who I am as individual; for my culture, my country, and my family. Since the beginning my family has been able to turn a bad situation around.
In the Latino culture their family structure and spending time with family and friends is vital part of their daily life, and being in hospital may make Jacinta the feel isolate, depress and that she is missing their family structure. And, with Jacinta choosing not to eat the hospital provide food, it could be that she wants to eat her meals when the family is present. In addition, there may, also, be a language barrier when ordering her meals. The traditional in the Latino culture consist mostly of low fat, high fiber, complex carbohydrates and with a strong emphasis on corn, beans and rice (Dudek 246). Dudek, Susan G. Being Hispanic is probably one of the greatest blessings to me and one of the most unique things to have. I love everything that has to do with being Hispanic from the culture, knowing two languages, and the diversity that is brought by being Hispanics. Being Hispanic is honoring and something that personally has given me a lot to be proud about. The culture that is taught as being Hispanic is very unique.
According to the CDC Hispanics of Mexican origin make up approximately 17 percent of the population in the United States. They are the one of the largest cultural populations in U.S. has risen dramatically over last four decades. There are a variety of reason that lead to health disparities for the Hispanic community these reasons then lead to the individuals not obtaining healthcare. First, it was reported by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in 2012 that 29.1 percent of the Hispanic do not have health insurance. This usually prevents the majority of Hispanic people from receiving health care.
Hispanics are also very family oriented. Latinos tend to stay near their families and always support them. Hispanics are also very religious and expect their families to be the same way. Latinos are also said to have too many children this is also true. However, in modern society Hispanics are having less and less children this is due to the growing number of Latinos attending colleges.
Many of the Hispanics in America don’t have a bachelor’s degree that enables them to work for jobs that allow them to make enough money to provide for their families, today only about 4.2 million of the 55 million Hispanic residents of the United States of America have their bachelor’s degree and only about 16.5% of the total population of Hispanics in America are enrolled in a program to earn their bachelor’s degree. This means that most Hispanic adults are often not getting the jobs they need to obtain enough money to provide the basic necessities their households need to live. This requires them to need to work multiple jobs at many places where they may only make minimum wage daily to obtain the money needed to provide their family with food, shelter, and water. With parents gone all the time this requires the eldest children to watch after their younger siblings because based on the United States Census, Hispanic women tend to have multiple children, and since they have to work most of the day the eldest children are only able to attend school and watch after their siblings, not allowing them to work or attend college for a better future. Also, due to child labor laws created by the U.S. Department of Labor, children aren’t allowed to work jobs until the age of 14, and even then, they are only allowed to work for little money and for a short amount of hours.
Now in 2016 we all have houses, cars, and an abundance of dreams and goals. We have each other to thank for all of our accomplishments because we could have never made it this far without each other. Being Hispanic is a synonym of strength, passion, and faith. Being hispanic is sticking together with your family and you're heritage, we have survived centuries of abuse without losing our dreams and faith in our heritage that our people will achieve peace and political freedom and stability. Being Hispanic in America often viewed as impossible to achieving success, but nothing comes easy.
They always look up towards me and will always see me working. My parents always tell me stories how they were raised and how they had little money but they continued to work hard and are blessed with all these things. Being hispanic automatically make anything think that you are a hard worker. They may not know where you came from but know you are willing to do anything at any cost. I plan to teach my future children what it really means to be from a hispanic culture and how they should go out and proudly tell the world who they really are.
I grew up in a two-parent household with my parents being married before they had children. My father has always been the one that provides finically, while my mother was the one who took care of my siblings and I throughout my childhood. Being that both of my parents were born in Mexico, I consider myself Mexican American. I am proud to be Mexican American. Culture plays a huge role in shaping your identity.
I’m the first generation of my family to be Mexican -American, but I have been introduced to the Mexican culture since I was born. I appreciate the difficulties my parents have faced to make me the person that I am today even though I wasn’t born in Mexico my parents have taught me the language and the culture which I’m so proud of being part of. For others being Hispanic is actually being born in any Latin American countries which is not true at all. Being Hispanic is much more than my cultural background it actually describes how much I appreciate my culture and how I get to experience things other people don’t. I fit into the Hispanic community through the experiencing the culture first hand ,participating in traditions and planning to include my culture in my future.
Religion is big in Mexico and according to gobalsecurity an online article, 88% of the population identified themselves as Roman Catholicism and 5 % of the population identified themselves as Protestants and Evangelicals. The values of the Mexican people are always around the family. Families are usually large in Mexico and are very conscious of the responsibilities to immediate family members and extended family such as cousins and even close friends. Whenever Mexicans host parties, they make visitors feel welcomed and comfortable which is a large part of the customs and values of the country. The Mexican people believe that any important decision within the family should be taken after all members in the family had their voice heard.
