History Of The Mexican Cession

Although there have been many events in history that relate to the topic of manifest destiny, the annexation of Texas into America was most significant. One event that relates to the topic of Texas is the Mexican cession. One can argue that the Mexican cession was one event that held more importance than the annexation of Texas due to the amounts of open land in the West. Although the Mexican cession was influenced by manifest destiny, it did not hold as much importance compared to the annexation of Texas. The Mexican cession occurred in 1848 due to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo that was signed after the Mexican-American war. In this treaty, the United States would gain control of all the lands that were placed west of Texas; this became known as the Mexican cession.

One reason for why the cession does not triumph the annexation of Texas is because of manifest destiny. Manifest destiny played a crucial role in the history of Texas, such as breaking apart from Mexican authority to form an independent nation. After the nation was established, the government would last for about another ten years until the decision came to voluntary become a state under American rule. Once America annexed the region of Texas, Mexico immediately responded back with placing troops on the border of
