Propaganda is one of the most powerful, horrific, and persuasive tools that Adolf Hitler got his hands on. Hitler was very powerful and manipulative during this time period. Hitler saw a weakness in the people and used the weakness to get their support. Propaganda is one of the main reasons Hitler was able to become the leader he was and commit such horrific crimes. He got in contact with a man by the name of Joe Goebbels at the perfect time. Goebbel was struggling with harassment for being physically disabled and was very angry and wanted revenge. Hitler liked to get the message across in any and every way he could. He used books, art, films, radio stations, and the press to spread the Nazi word through propaganda. Some of those propaganda methods did not go over as well as others due to their cost of them and the money was tight during this time. Three of those methods were very significant and got Hitler to fame very rapidly. The significant methods were films, radio, the press, and advertisement. Film propaganda was for sure one of the most significant. Through these films, Hitler was able to spread antisemitism very quickly across large masses of people. He also used these films to show the public just how much power the German military had and the evilness of the enemies they were against. Films would show the Jews as very unhuman like greedy people. The films always showed Hitler as powerful and glorified. Overall, the films made the Nazis seem very victorious and powerful (United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, nd). Radios and their station were the next most significant source of the Nazi propagated message during Hitler’s reign. The radios were so effective because they could reach people from all over and even cross borders. Goebbels's family was a very strict catholic family. When he was very young he got polio which led him to have a crippled foot. His crippled foot would be the main motivation behind his hateful propaganda ideas (Wistrich, 2015). He also understood the art of persuasion very well and wanted to get Hitler’s message out to the people in as many ways as he could. Becoming a Nazi Minister allowed all of his hopes and dreams to become a reality (Marsh, 2021). Throughout his whole life, he was harassed for being physically disabled and was not offered many opportunities. Goebbel was very intelligent and studied history and literature in school. As he continued to be turned down because of his crippled foot, the anger continued to build. This anger caused him to snap and join Hitler. In 1922 he was formally part of The National Socialists German Workers Party. Hitler and Goebbel became close acquaintances very quickly. Hitler knew he needed to start getting people pulled in and to join him and Goebbel was just the man for that. Goebbel began creating this propaganda out of all the hatred, rage, and feelings of destroying anything people enjoy. As his propaganda and intelligence began to gain power, Goebbel moved up in the NSGWP very fast. He eventually became the head leader under Hitler and continued to lure people in.
